Old and In The Way: Midnight Moonlight

I was never the same after I heard this version of Midnight Moonlight. Some of the names may not scream authentic bluegrass, but here is down-home bluegrass playing by stars (Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, John Kahn) that's as tangy and authentic to the music's distant roots as any Bartok is to Balkan Folk. This was music that showed me that a kid who didn't even listen to pop music until he was in his 20's could mine its minerals to make it sound authentic.
